Ribbon Cutting for Upgrades to Carl Ahler's Park

Aug 30, 2023

Yesterday, members of Kiwanis Club of Moses Lake, Rotary Club of Moses Lake, and the City of Moses Lake hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for upgrades made to the Carl Ahler's park, across the street from Frontier Junior High. The culmination of hard-working partnerships, this event celebrated new concrete games including a concrete table tennis table, chess table, and two corn hole games.

The funding for this project came from a joint golf tournament between Kiwanis and Rotary. Supplemental funding was also requested from Rotary Foundation, and approved another $10,000. The project budget total was $24,300, and took approximately five days to install and complete.

Rotary Club District Governor, Marjolein Lloyd, visiting from Kelowna Sunrise Club in BC, was also in attendance.

President of Rotary Club of Moses Lake, Pete Erickson, said, “The city had discussed the idea of a game park for several months so when the Rotary presented the concrete games as one of three ideas for a local project, the city was excited about it. Ahler's Park was the selected location because it was close to the skateboard park as well as the aquatic center. It’s been a fun project and we’re thankful for the partnership between Kiwanis, Rotary, and the City of Moses Lake.”

Addressing Kiwanis and Rotary members at this event, Bill Aukett, Park Maintenance Superintendent, said, “We really enjoyed working with you folks. This has been fun. It was a great idea. Thank you very much and we look forward to future projects.”

Erickson added, “Both the Kiwanis and Rotary clubs are committed to conducting service projects in Moses Lake. Over the years the clubs have place AEDs in all MLSD school buildings and also at BBCC. They’ve also provided new shelving for the Moses Lake Public Library, remodeled a home for our local domestic violence shelter, and placed 200 stoves in Guatemalan homes so families don’t have to endure smoke from cooking over an open fire. It’s been very meaningful, rewarding work.”
